What is Google Penalty?

Cloaking
When search engine spiders (googlebot) reads the content from your site and the same content  not displayed to the users or visitors this type of mesmerizing of the content is called as cloaking.

Text  & Links(URL) mesmerizing (hiding)
Hiding Text
This activity comes under the Black hat seo which is illegal (unethical). This is also a part of cloaking where the text is not visible to visitors and search engines can read the text.  This type of practice is untrustworthy activity.
The text is hidden in many ways such as using same color text as background color, hiding text behind images, hiding text using CSS(cascading style sheets), or  making the font size to zero.
The search engines can easily recognize the hidden text by comparing your background color with the text color used in a particular webpage.

Hiding Links
This activity comes under the black hat seo which is illegal. This is also a part of cloaking where the link is not visible to visitors and search engines can crawl through the link. This type of practice should be avoided.
The link(URL) is hidden in many ways, such as the link consists of text and  by using same color for the text as the background color, hiding text links behind images, making hyperlinks as small as one pixel by using CSS(cascading style sheets), or making the linking hide in a small character like hyphen, number or any other symbols.
The search engines can easily recognize the hidden Link text by comparing your background color with the link text color used in a particular webpage.

Building Bulk Links
Adding more links at one time will result in penalizing of your site. Google watches for step by step natural growth, unless you are famous pop star like Shakira or Jennifer Lopez this is possible, where your site will have more links too quickly. And also Google observes this on their statistics. If quick links are not justified to google, undoubtedly you will be out of google. Linking to Bad or Banned Sites

If you found any banned sites in your links, just remove those links from your web page. Also check for bad neighborhoods such as link farms or doorway pages. Link farms are nothing but pages with bulk links with doesn’t have any useful or relevant content. Bad neighborhoods are spammed sites and which are using doorway pages. Duplicate Content (Plagiarism)
Search engines ranks only original content. They need only original content to be indexed. If you consider what search engines are looking for its visitors, then you will know that visitors need informative and fresh original content. However if your content is copied from another site this is called plagiarism (duplicating the content). Duplicating the content leads to penalization of your site.
